Gary Neville savages Paul Pogba as Liverpool star Naby Keita stretchered off

Gary Neville hit out at Paul Pogba for the serious foul play that saw the France international dismissed during Manchester United's Premier League capitulation against Liverpool.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men were outclassed and outfought by Liverpool during their Sunday afternoon encounter, going 2-0 down after just 15 minutes and 4-0 down before the break.

With Mohamed Salah getting his hat-trick in the second-half, Cristiano Ronaldo had a goal ruled out for a marginal offside call before substitute Pogba was given his marching orders.

Following an initial yellow card for his lunge on Naby Keita, a subsequent check led to Anthony Taylor brandishing a red card for the World Cup winner.

Neville told Sky Sports of the tackle before the check: "I think it is a red. I think we all recognise that that is the tackle which has to go."

Before adding after the decision was confirmed: "There were signs of indiscipline before the break.

"But they have followed it up in the second half. There have been three tackles which haven't been great.

"This is as bad as it gets. It is the nature of the performance. They have capitulated."

Goalscorer Keita was then taken off the field on a stretcher, with thoughts turning to his recovery.

Former United striker Dion Dublin said of the challenge on BBC Radio 5 Live: "Wow. He left the floor, he was out of control and his studs were challenging.

"The way he left the pitch he was resigned to the fact that it wasn't his best challenge."

With Graeme Souness saying of the result as a whole: "Liverpool were fabulous.

"Manchester United didn't have a gameplan. It is a sad, sad day for United.

"But fair play to the supporters because the vast majority stayed right to the end."
