Gary Lineker has reacted to Tottenham potentially signing Lautaro Martinez after the news that Spurs had reportedly agreed a fee to sign the striker from Inter Milan. The potential move comes amidst growing uncertainty over the future of Harry Kane.

Martinez, 23, is thought to be on Tottenham’s radar as they chase a new number nine although the noises from Spurs are that he will play alongside Kane rather than replace him.

The Argentine international netted 17 goals in Serie A last season as Inter won their first league title since 2011.

Martinez joined the Nerazzurri in 2018 and has formed a lethal partnership with former Manchester United and Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku during his time in the Italian capital.

But now Martinez’s Inter future is in doubt with the Argentine potentially on the move to north London.

Having spent heavily in recent transfer windows including a reported £74 million deal to sign Lukaku from Man Utd in 2019, Inter are now having to balance their books.

The willingness to sell several of their key players led to the departure of former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte at the end of last season.

And current Inter boss Simone Inzaghi is now facing up the possibility of losing another one of his key players this summer.

Chelsea are reportedly close to completing the signing of Lukaku from Inter for a club-record £97.5m fee.

And now another one of their other key attacking players looks set to complete a move to the Premier League.

The news of the potential transfer of Martinez to Spurs has drawn a reaction on social media from former Tottenham striker Gary Lineker.

“But how will get a game ahead of @HKane?” he tweeted with a cheeky wink emoji at the end.

Current Spurs striker and England captain Kane has been linked with a move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.

The 28-year-old is reportedly wanting to seek a new challenge having failed to win a major trophy during his time at Spurs.

Kane has won three Premier League Golden Boots and has scored a staggering 166 goals in England’s top division, 23 of which came during the last campaign.

Manchester City have been heavily linked with the English striker who did not return as scheduled for pre-season training last week at Tottenham.

Spurs begin their Premier League campaign with a daunting home game against defending champions City on August 15.

They ended last season in seventh and will play in the Europa Conference League this term as a result.
