Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli has singled out two team-mates for praise following his brace against Leeds on Saturday. Martinelli scored twice at Elland Road as Arsenal ran out comfortable 4-1 winners over Marcelo Bielsa’s side. Bukayo Saka and substitute Emile Smith Rowe scored the other two goals for the visitors.

Martinelli has now started the last four Premier League matches.

He is currently keeping arguably the Gunners’ player of the season so far, Smith Rowe, out of Mikel Arteta’s starting XI.

The Brazilian finished smartly in the 16th minute, curling past Illan Meslier when the ball fell at his feet.

Martinelli netted his second 12 minutes later, lifting the ball over Meslier after being fed through on goal by Granit Xhaka.

After five Premier League defeats away from home this season, Martinelli was delighted to help his side to an important win.

“It was a very good result,” he told Sky Sports.

“It was away and so important for the team. We are happy with the work and result as well. This is what Mikel asks when we go in the final third to be dangerous.”

Alexandre Lacazette again captained Arsenal and put in a fine display at centre-forward.

Martinelli was grateful for Lacazette’s movement for his first goal as well as Xhaka’s pass for the second.

“It’s so good that he (Lacazette) tracks the centre-backs and I get the chance to get in behind,” he added.

“It was a great pass from Granit, thanks to him too. It was two good goals. Not just me, the whole team enjoyed the second goal.

“We have a young team but strong and very good players. You see today Emile came off the bench and scored.”

Ahead of the match, Liverpool legend Graeme Souness was full of praise for Martinelli.

Souness can see the 20-year-old becoming a top star in the Premier League.

“Yeah I like him,” Souness said.

“When I’ve seen him play he looks lively, he’s dangerous, he’s quick, enthusiastic. He’s going to get goals.

“He’s a young man who I think will be a star in our football. Goalscorers like him are really hard to find.

“He’s got everything about his game and I really like him.”
