With less than two months to go until players jet off for the 2022 African Cup of Nations, Liverpool must prepare to cover their losses in the January transfer window. Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane’s impending absences will be a hurdle Jurgen Klopp must clear if he’s to lift a second Premier League title this season.

Salah and Mane could leave Liverpool to represent Egypt and Senegal, respectively, as early as December 27 and not return until the second week of February.

It would leave Klopp without his star attacking duo – who transfermarkt value at a combined £165.5million – for up to eight games, depending on their nations’ successes in the competition.

Liverpool are set to contend six Premier League games and two FA Cup outings throughout the course of AFCON.

And in an already-crucial part of the season for any title challenger, FSG must react to help Klopp compete with Chelsea and Manchester City – who won’t be hit as hard.

The Reds’ answer could be RB Salzburg forward Karim Adeyemi, strongly linked with an Anfield switch for months.

Adeyemi’s versatility across the forward line would make him an enticing stand-in option whilst Salah and Mane are overseas.

The German international has scored 10 goals in 12 Austrian Bundesliga games and also has three in four in this season’s Champions League.

And still 19, he poses as a long-term signing who could eventually replace one of Klopp’s ageing attackers on a permanent basis.

He is one of many candidates FSG could lay the foundations to sign in the near future and secure their services at the start of January.

Klopp will still have Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota at his disposal, but Salah has been indispensable so far this term.

The 29-year-old has scored 15 goals in 13 games in all competitions and would currently be difficult to replace with any player in Europe.

Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi are the prime candidates within Klopp’s current ranks, but many will understandably ask big questions of their calibre.

After making just one summer signing, FSG could come under pressure to open their purses and reinforce Liverpool’s attack over a tough period.

But, on the other hand, any permanent signing would likely have to make sense in the long term.

With that said, a loan signing until the end of the season could be a viable option, depending on which players are available.

FSG would be taking a considerable risk by not acting while Salah and Mane are absent, though, as the Premier League title race ramps up.
