Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta made the “really difficult” decision to strip Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of the club captaincy on Tuesday. Another disciplinary breach from Aubameyang was the final straw for Arteta. That has led to question marks over the striker’s future at the Emirates.
Arteta was coy when asked whether Aubameyang could leave in next month’s transfer window.
When asked, the Spaniard said: “I can say right now that we have made this decision, unfortunately it’s a really tough one and obviously if I had to choose I would not like to be sitting here talking about it but we had to do it. But for now, he is not involved in the squad.
“What I can say now is to make the decision that we made is really hurting, and it is still like this and it needs a bit of time to heal. So for now, he is not involved in the squad.”
Aubameyang’s long-term future at Arsenal is clearly in doubt.

Real Sociedad and Sweden star Isak was linked with Arsenal in the summer.
The 22-year-old is not a prolific goalscorer though enjoyed his best season in La Liga last term with 17 goals in 34 appearances.
Arsenal technical director Edu is said to be a fan of Isak.
However, he would not come cheap, as it is widely reported he has a release clause of around £77million in his Sociedad contract.

Wayne Rooney set for sensational Everton return as chiefs draw up Rafa Benitez plan [REPORT]
Vlahovic has been in stunning form for Fiorentina and links with a move to Arsenal refuse to go away.
Fiorentina are doing all they can to tie him down to a new deal and protect his value.
Reports claim Vlahovic would not be too keen on a move mid-season.
But if he doesn’t sign a new contract soon, Fiorentina may be tempted with a large offer.
Calvert-Lewin has also been linked with a move to the Emirates after his best goalscoring season for Everton.
The England international has not played since August after fracturing his toe.
Everton have missed him greatly and manager Rafa Benitez sees himself under huge pressure after a wretched run of results.
Calvert-Lewin wouldn’t need time to settle into the league like Isak and Dusan Vlahovic.
But Everton would demand a huge fee for a player who still has three-and-a-half years remaining on his contract.
This could be a very short-term measure for the Gunners before they look for a longer-term solution at the end of the season.
Cavani is out of contract at Manchester United in the summer but would likely get more game time at Arsenal if he fancied a six-month spell in London.
The Uruguay star has struggled with fitness and injury problems this season though.
He would have to get over that for Arteta to even consider a deal.
