Arsenal start to the Premier League season could not have gone worse when they lost to Brentford and Gary Neville has told the club’s board to make new signings pronto or face further embarrassment this campaign.

Arsenal have been told the splash the cash this summer by Neville following their disastrous start to the season.

The Gunners were handed a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Brentford after goals from Sergi Canos and Christian Norgaard.

But, perhaps, more worryingly for Mikel Arteta was the manner in which they were beaten – easily bullied, toothless in attack and a lack of grit.

Fans are already pessimistic ahead of the rest of the campaign but there could be a silver lining with the transfer window still open.

Neville said on Sky Sports after the match: “Look they need players, they need attacking players.

“I think Pepe is the only player who has scored more than two Premier League goals I was saying before the game that I was excited that Aubameyang and Lacazette weren’t playing but I think they need to be a little bit more decisive.

“I think Smith-Rowe can cause more problems but they need to give them the ball.”

But who could Arsenal sign? And who do they need?

Top of the wish list is a creative midfielder, which is obvious to see, and Arteta is desperate to sign Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid.

A right-back also should be high on his list of priorities with Hector Bellerin unfancied and Calum Chambers clearly not good enough in that role and Max Aarons has been linked in the past.

The Norwich star, who also attracted attention from Barcelona and Bayern Munich, would solve Arteta’s problems down the right-hand side and also provide some much-needed width to support Nicolas Pepe.

Missing out on Tammy Abraham is a big blow as Arsenal need a forward and there are not too many options out there anymore, while Matthew Hoppe could be signed from Schalke if they revive their interest in the 20-year-old American.

And lastly, another central midfielder should be signed despite the arrival of Albert Sambi Lokonga with Granit Xhaka still as unreliable as ever.

There are doubts over Lyon star Houssem Aouar but the midfielder would be an instant upgrade on the current options and also be available for relatively cheap.
