Rio Ferdinand has made the blockbuster claim that Liverpool should re-sign Raheem Sterling after his recent treatment at Manchester City.
The former Manchester United defender has been left confused by Sterling’s recent poor form at City, and thinks it is because he has lost his place in the starting 11.
Sterling has made just two starts for City this season, the most recent of which came in the recent 0-0 draw against Southampton on Saturday.
And his failure to impress when being presented with an opportunity has led to further speculation linking him with a move away from the Etihad.
“It's only because he's been taken out of the team that he's lost confidence," Ferdinand said on hisVibe with Fiveshow. “He was on fire. He was producing.
“This guy was the go-to guy when they needed a goal for so many years. All of a sudden, he's in the wilderness. I'm just baffled by it; I don't understand it.
“But this is the thing with Pep [Guardiola], he gets it right more often than not, but with this one with Sterling… there must be clubs sitting there going, 'boy, let me see how this situation pans out because I will take Sterling all day.'
“If I'm Liverpool, I'm buying Sterling tomorrow.”

It has been quite the fall for the 26-year-old, who has gone from a regular starter, to losing his place in the team to the likes of Jack Grealish and Ferran Torres.
When asked about Sterling’s recent performance in the disappointing weekend draw, Guardiola said: “He was so active in terms of movement, but football depends a lot on how good we do the process in build up and when it happens our strikers and wingers play better.
“And our attacking midfielders play better and today we struggled a bit and that is why he didn’t get many balls but he was always dangerous and ready to try to do it.”
Sterling is yet to sign a new deal at the club, which has raised further questions over his future.
According to MailOnline, Barcelona are reportedly set to offer Sterling a fresh start by making a loan approach for the forward in January.
Sterling did manage to put the ball in the back of the net at the weekend, but his goal was later ruled out by VAR.
