Rio Ferdinand claims he was "always sceptical" about Ole Gunnar Solskjaer taking the reins at Manchester United – but fans aren't buying it.
After dismal defeats to Manchester City and Liverpool in recent weeks, the Norwegian's future at the club is in serious doubt.
United were thrashed 5-0 by Jurgen Klopp's side last month, and while a 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur a week later relieved some of the pressure on Solskjaer, City's comfortable 2-0 win at Old Trafford on Saturday set alarm bells ringing again.
Now, despite singing his praises for years, Ferdinand claims he was never "fully convinced" about Solskjaer, much to the amusement of the internet.
Speaking on his Vibe With Five YouTube channel, the former England international said: "I was always deep down a bit sceptical, could he (Solskjaer) take us on to be champions? I wasn’t fully convinced – I wasn’t sure he could do that."
Social media users were quick to remind Ferdinand of his passionate outburst on live TV in 2019 where he demanded United offer Solskjaer a permanent contract after knocking Paris Saint Germain out of the Champions League.
"Then why did he make such a scene in the BT studio after we fluked that win in Paris? Looking back, that 3-1 win against PSG set this club back 3 and a half years," one Twitter user wrote.
"You said give him whatever contract he wants Rio ffs," wrote another.
Another said: "Then why the f*** did you make a scene on live tv begging for him to be given a contract?"

After Jose Mourinho was sacked by United in December 2018, Solskjaer was brought in as caretaker boss, but after racking up a healthy amount of victories – including a dramatic last-minute win over PSG – many were calling for his contract to be made permanent – including Ferdinand.
"Man United might not thank me but get the contract out, put it on the table, let him sign it, let him put whatever numbers he wants to put on there given what he's done now since he's come in and let him sign the contract," the former United defender infamously told his BT Sports colleagues after the PSG match.
"Ole's at the wheel man, he's doing it, he's doing his thing, Man United are back!"
United currently lie sixth in the Premier League table.
City's 2-0 scoreline did not reflect the dominance on the day, with Pep Guardiola's side battering their rivals in every department.
Similar to Liverpool, Solskjaer's opponents appeared to actively not press for more goals.
