Cristiano Ronaldo has re-signed for Manchester United, with the club confirming his second arrival on transfer deadline day. And, on Tuesday, the Portugal international trained with his new team-mates for the first time. Express Sport will now take a look at four things we noticed the veteran doing during his first session at Carrington in 12 years.

Experienced heads

Ronaldo initially walked out onto the training pitch with Juan Mata.

Given the Spain international is another ultimate professional, that certainly makes sense.

Mata may not always play for United these days but the club have kept him around because they value his overall contribution.

Ronaldo towered over the former Chelsea star as they walked out, cutting an imposing figure.

And the duo may have been discussing ways they can lend their experience to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s young squad.

Keeping cool

It was a hot day on Wednesday, with temperatures close to 30°C being recorded in some parts of the country.

Ronaldo had previously said he was soaking up the sun in Manchester, something that doesn’t happen very often.

And he was seen trying to keep himself cool during training by blasting himself with water.

Interestingly, it wasn’t with one of the club’s water bottles.

Maybe Ronaldo wasn’t given one in his welcome package. A trip to the club’s Megastore beckons…

Mentoring the young guns

At separate points during the session, Ronaldo could be seen training alongside some of United’s young players.

Joe Hugill has been deadly at youth level over the past year and was spotted next to the former Juventus star.

And Hannibal Mejbri was also involved amid expectations he’ll be unleashed more regularly by Solskjaer this term.

While Ronaldo mentored the young, he also did train under former team-mate Darren Fletcher.

How United must wish they had a defensive midfielder of the Scot’s calibre, having seen him shine during Sir Alex Ferguson’s time in charge.

Smiling away

One of the biggest takeaways from Ronaldo’s first session is just how happy he looks.

He looked totally relaxed in his surroundings, particularly when alongside Fred and Diogo Dalot.

Now, the onus will be on United to ensure the situation stays that way.

Ronaldo, when happy and fully firing, is the best player on the planet. Potentially, the best of all time.

And it would be wise of Solskjaer to stay on his good side, rather than risk rocking the boat.

Ronaldo is raring to go

Speaking before he made his first United training appearance, Ronaldo admitted he was thrilled to be back.

“Well, as you know, I have a fantastic history with this amazing club,” he told club media last week.

“I was there at 18 years old and of course I’m so happy to be back home after 12 years.

“So I’m really glad and looking forward to start my first game.

“I think it’s the best decision that I have made it. It’s right on point in my opinion.

“I moved from Juve now to Manchester, it’s a new chapter, I’m so happy and glad, and I want to carry on again, to make history, to try to help Manchester achieve great results, to win trophies and number one of them, to win great things.”
