Cristiano Ronaldo 'not happy' with lack of progress at Manchester United

Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo admits he’s ‘not happy’ with how his return to the club has panned out so far this season and he’s urged his team-mates adopt a ‘stronger mentality’ in 2022.

The 36-year-old made a sensational return to the Theatre of Dreams last summer, completing a £12million move from Juventus after 12 years away from Old Trafford.

Ronaldo’s kept his part of the bargain by scoring 14 times in 20 appearances for the Red Devils this term but United’s form has been patchy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked in November after a dismal start to the campaign.

United’s results have improved under Ralf Rangnick but they’re still outside the top four and Ronaldo says he wants to see a ‘stronger mentality’ from his team-mates this year.

‘2021 is coming to an end and it was far from being an easy year, despite my 47 goals scored across all competitions,’ said Ronaldo.

‘Two different clubs and five different coaches. One Euro Final Stage played with my National Team and one World Cup Qualification left pending for 2022. At Juventus, I was proud to win the Italian Cup and the Italian Supercup, and become the Série A Top Scorer. For Portugal, becoming the Euro Top Scorer was also a high point this year. And of course, my return to Old Trafford will always be one of the most iconic moments in my career.

‘But I’m not happy with what we are achieving in Man. United. None of us are happy, I’m sure of that. We know that we have to work harder, play better and deliver way more than we are delivering right now.

‘Let’s make this New Year’s Eve a turning point of the season! Let’s embrace 2022 with a higher spirit and a stronger mentality. Let’s take us above and beyond, let’s reach for the stars and put this club right where it belongs! Join us, we’re counting on all of you!

‘Happy New Year and see you soon!’

Reports of unrest at Old Trafford began to circulate earlier this month, despite the arrival of Rangnick to Old Trafford.

But Ronaldo’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has dismissed speculation that the Portugal captain is already seeking an exit from the club.

‘Cristiano Ronaldo is very happy at Man United,’ said Mendes.

‘He’s going to continue with his solid, great performances as always in his career.

‘It’s gonna be a great season for him, I’m sure.’
