Jamie Redknapp believes that Manchester City’s failed attempt to land Harry Kane will provide a huge boost for their title rivals in the Premier League shakeup this season.
Kane, 28, has been in the midst of a transfer saga this summer with the Tottenham star desperate to leave the club and City have seen several approaches for the England captain rebuffed by Daniel Levy.
On Wednesday, Kane dealt a crushing blow to City’s hopes of landing the marksman after insisting that he is now fully focused on the task at hand at Spurs for the 2021-22 campaign.

Pep Guardiola has been desperate for an elite goalscorer following the departure of Sergio Aguero, and City’s failure to land Kane – Redknapp suggests – will be lapped up by their closest rivals.
‘This is great news for Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea because I think that pretty much everyone in football would’ve thought had Kane gone to City, you might as well do the trophy lift now,’ he told Sky Sports.
‘But Kane staying at Spurs gives a completely different perspective to the whole season. It doesn’t make Man City the outstanding favourites.’

Kane’s unrest at Spurs is the first time that he has hit troubled waters during his career, leading to some concerns as to whether he can hit top form with off-the-pitch circumstances perhaps distracting the Englishman.
However, Redknapp believes that Kane will be able to put his saga to one side and perform at the highest level for Spurs, labelling the striker a ‘professional’.
‘I think Kane will just get on with it,’ he added. ‘Harry is a consummate professional. He got a bit of criticism for how he didn’t return back from his holiday for training but that’s something that happens with players.
‘I’ve seen players do 10 times worse, but since he’s come back into the fold he’s got on with it.
Redknapp added that he has no doubt that Kane will continue to deliver for his boyhood club

‘Maybe we’ll see something different now. We’ve got a week left of the window and they could get some players in.
‘Every player wants to win trophies so hopefully Levy can show some real ambition, not just by keeping Kane but through adding to the squad that can enable the side to finish in the top four, win an FA Cup and long-term he might think he is at the right club after all.’
Spurs have gotten off to a strong start already this season under new boss Nuno Espirito Santo.
The North Londoners have won both of their Premier League games but have to overcome a one-goal deficit to advance in the Europa Conference League against Pacos de Ferreira.
