Christian Eriksen set to join Brentford until the end of the season

Christian Eriksen is set to join Brentford until the end of the season with the former Tottenham star ready to return after shock cardiac arrest… and the stunning deal could be completed THIS weekend

  • Christian Eriksen is on the verge of sealing a short-term move to Brentford
  • The Bees are set to hand Eriksen, 29, a contract until the end of the season
  • While it is a free transfer, they want to seal the signing before Tuesday’s deadline
  • Eriksen has been training with Ajax’s reserves to ensure he is ready for action

Christian Eriksen’s proposed deal with Brentford could be concluded this weekend with both parties keen to reach an agreement before Monday’s deadline.

The Dane is training with Jong Ajax, the Dutch club’s reserve team, to build fitness for his expected return to competitive football, yet talks have continued with the Bees.

Even though Eriksen is a free agent and not bound by the transfer window, there is willingness on all sides to tie up the deal by January 31 so he can be included in Brentford’s 25-man Premier League squad this month.

Christian Eriksen’s proposed deal with Thomas Frank’s Brentford could be sealed this weekend

At this stage, the contract being discussed would be a simple arrangement until the end of the season. That would allow time for both player and club to decide whether to extend the deal.

Eriksen passed exhaustive medical checks in December and was cleared to return to competitive football after suffering a cardiac arrest on the pitch during his country’s Euro 2020 meeting with Finland in Copenhagen on June 12.

He attracted interest from several clubs across the world but his preference was always to return to the Premier League, where he spent six and a half seasons with Tottenham before joining Inter Milan in January 2020.

Eriksen’s contract with Inter was terminated in December due to Italian regulations preventing him from playing in Serie A as he is fitted with a defibrillator.
