Chelsea have been warned they need to sign Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku in the summer transfer window to challenge for the Premier League title next season. Thomas Tuchel’s side have been told that Timo Werner can ‘hurt’ Manchester City in Saturday’s Champions League final – but they must swoop for Lukaku to keep up with their rivals.
Chelsea have been linked with a move for Lukaku, who fired 24 goals in Serie A this season to fire Inter to their first title triumph for 11 years.
Tuchel’s side are in the market for a striker, after Werner netted just six times in the Premier League since his move from RB leipzig last summer.
Harry Kane and Erling Haaland also believed to be on Chelsea radar, while it remains to be seen whether Lukaku will leave Inter after the club parted company with manager Antonio Conte this week.
And Joe Cole says bringing the 28-year-old back to Stamford Bridge is a must for his former club.

Ahead of the Champions League final in Porto on Saturday, Cole was asked whether Chelsea need Lukaku, who is expected to cost around £90m to prise away for the San Siro.
“Yes,” he told told 90min. “Werner is a quality player and I think he’ll be an important player tomorrow, but I think if Lukaku is available at the right price Chelsea would take him because he’s one of the top strikers.
“Every team will strengthen this year that’s for sure and you need options to win titles.”
Despite his belief that Chelsea need to strengthen in the striking department, Cole says Werner can be the difference against Pep Guardiola’s City on Saturday.

“Timo Werner is all wrong for the way Pep plays, no system is impenetrable,” said the former midfielder, who won three Premier League titles with Chelsea.
“Pep plays a certain way and if you get it right and get a player as explosive as Timo, as intelligent as him making runs you are going to get space at some point in the game. He is the player to hurt them.”
Cole says Chelsea don’t need to fear City after beating them in the league and FA Cup this season – and insists the pressure is off after they secured a top-four spot to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
“It’s almost a bonus,” he said.
“I don’t think even the club would have expected to get there this soon, but you’re here, you’re at the top table of European football and you’re playing a team you’ve beaten already this season so that takes that fear element out of it. I really do see this as a free hit for this team.”
