Chelsea may be the Premier League’s big spenders this summer but Frank Lampard is not finished just yet. The Blues are yet to get a deal over the line for a new goalkeeper and Marina Granovskaia is still exploring the availability of other targets. Here is the latest Chelea transfer news on Wednesday September 16…
Edouard Mendy medical twist
It was widely reported last Friday that Edouard Mendy had flown to England for a medical, after Rennes had allegedly accepted an offer in the region of £18.5million from Chelsea.
The goalkeeper was snapped leaving the club’s Center Drive Henri Guerin training ground following a decisive transfer meeting and he it was believed he was given the green light to head to London.
Reports claimed that Mendy had his medical that day but now it appears Chelsea may not have even had a bid accepted, let alone conducted a medical.
RMC Sport’s Mohamed Bouhafsi tweeted: “Still no deal reached between #Rennes & #Chelsea for Edouard #Mendy. The player is ready & waiting to fly to London when he gets the green light to do so, has agreed a 5-year contract with CFC.”

Declan Rice swap deal
West Ham have reportedly retained an interest in Chelsea left-back Emerson Palmieri, who is deemed surplus to requirements by Lampard.
The Sun have suggested that he could be used as makeweight in a potential swap deal to sign Rice, who remains one of Chelsea’s top targets.
The West Ham star was a product of the Blues academy before they decided to release him at the age of 14.
Now he is thought to be keen on returning to west London but the Hammers are set to demand upwards of £60million.
Including Emerson in any deal could help Chelsea keep the price down in order to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations, following a hectic window.

Bayern want Callum Hudson-Odoi (again)
Callum Hudson-Odoi is back on Bayern Munich’s radar as they look to replace Ivan Perisic.
The Croatian played a key role under Hansi Flick as the Bavarians won the Champions League in Lisbon but now he will return to Inter Milan.
Sky Sports claim that Bayern are keen on Hudson-Odoi once again, after having multiple offers rejected in 2019.
Bayern were prepared to pay as high as £35m for the winger whose value has now decreased following a lack of game time.
It’s unclear whether Lampard would be open to a sale but Hudson-Odoi has fallen down the attacking pecking order following the arrivals of Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.
Rennes swap deal request
Rennes reportedly asked Chelsea to include Olivier Giroud on loan as part of a player-plus-cash deal for Edouard Mendy.
L’Equipe say the Ligue 1 club initially quoted £37million plus the striker on loan but now the Blues are looking to close a deal at around £18.5m.
Giroud remains part of Lampard’s plans despite the arrival of Werner on the back of an impressive end to last season.
The French international wants to play regularly to give himself a chance of leading the line for his country at the European Championships next summer.
