Chelsea are reportedly fearful of two of their biggest stars departing over the Roman Abramovich saga.
The club has been shrouded in controversy since the UK government decided to place sanctions on billionaire owner Abramovich after the Government accused him of having links to the Russian government, which he denies. It following the country’s invasion of Ukraine, although there is no suggestion he is involved in any way.
A consortium spearheaded by American Todd Boehly is now set to buy the club for more than £4.25billion, but it may not be enough to prevent a crisis at the west London club. It is understood the new Blues boss will have to move fast in order to keep star midfielders N’Golo Kante and Jorginho in the summer.
According to The Sun, the Champions League-winning pair could leave at the end of the season. It comes following the impending departure of centre-back pairing Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, who are set to join Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively.
Rudiger’s free transfer to Los Blancos is reported to have left senior players particularly “gutted”. And some players do not buy into the explanation that the sanctions on Abramovich prevented a new deal being agreed with the German centre-back.
Do you think Kante and Jorginho will both leave Chelsea in the summer? Let us know in the comments section.
They believe the club mismanaged Rudiger’s situation by not tying him down long before the war in Ukraine kicked off in late February. And now veterans Kante and Jorginho, who are about to enter the final year of their contracts, could opt to jump ship too.
Meanwhile, Chelsea could suffer yet another blow in the form of club captain Cesar Azpilicueta leaving for free, despite a clause in his contract which allows the Blues to trigger a 12-month extension. It is understood Chelsea’s mixed run of results in recent weeks has created further uncertainty at Stamford Bridge, with the side having won just one of their previous four Premier League matches.
