Chelsea fans hail "untouchable" star after heroics in Newcastle win

Chelsea claimed a routine victory against Newcastle United on Saturday to continue their strong run of form in the Premier League.

Tammy Abraham's second-half strike sealed all three points for the Blues after Magpies defender Federico Fazio diverted the ball into his own net early on.

The result propelled Chelsea to the summit of the Premier League table for a few hours until Tottenham defeated Manchester City later in the evening to take top spot.

A standout performer in Frank Lampard 's side was full-back Reece James, who produced an excellent display in defence to keep tricky Newcastle winger Allan Saint-Maximin quiet throughout the match.

The 20-year-old has played in all but one of Chelsea's top-flight fixtures this season and has become an important member of the west London club's defence.

One particular moment had Blues fans on Twitter brimming with pride, as their academy product brushed off the onrushing pair of Saint-Maximin and Jamal Lewis down his right flank, calmly collected the ball and distributed with a smart forward pass.

One fan said: "I clapped when I saw that."

Another commented: "The fact that he was going against two players is mesmerizing."

A third supporter revealed that they "couldn't believe" their eyes, while a fourth claimed that James' heroics should not come as too much of a surprise, as the young defender usually "bodies anyone that comes close".

Others described the former Wigan Athletic loanee as "untouchable" and "on beast mode".

James was rewarded for his good form for Chelsea with an England call-up in early October.

He made his debut from the substitutes' bench during the 3-0 victory against Wales at Wembley Stadium.

Chelsea return to UEFA Champions League action in midweek with a trip to Ligue 1 outfit Rennes on Tuesday, before a top-of-the-table Premier League clash against cross-city rivals Tottenham five days later.
