Manchester City will receive a welcome financial boost if Chelsea manage to seal a permanent move for Leroy Sane in the January transfer window, according to reports. The 25-year-old looks to be facing an uncertain future at Bayern Munich after just one season at the Allianz Arena.

Sane has struggled to settle in at Bayern since joining the club in a £40million move from City in July of last year.

He featured heavily with 44 appearances in all competitions last season but has been tipped to seek a new challenge at the turn of the year.

The forward has been linked with a move to Chelsea in recent weeks, with Thomas Tuchel believed to be keen on bringing him to Stamford Bridge.

Reports have claimed that Bayern would be open to a bid in the region of £54m to make a profit on their man in the event of his departure.

A move to Chelsea would appear to be a good move for all parties, with the Blues finding themselves short of high-quality options in the wide areas.

The likes of Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi have struggled to establish themselves as key men under Tuchel’s leadership and the addition of Sane would offer an upgrade on both players.

However, if Chelsea decide to match Bayern’s asking price, it could inadvertently hand City a slender advantage in this season’s Premier League title race.

The defending champions have a 10 per cent sell-on clause in Sane’s contract, meaning they would be set to pick up around £5.4m as a result of the move, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Although City’s potential windfall is unlikely to be extortionate, it could prove to be the difference in January if they decide to resume their search for a new top-class striker.

Mid-season moves are notoriously difficult to engineer and the extra cash gained from Sane’s proposed switch could go a long way in helping the Manchester heavyweights to finally replace Sergio Aguero.

However, it has been claimed that Chelsea could explore the possibility of a player-plus-cash deal with Bayern in a move that would likely see a reduction in City’s sell-on package.

The likes of Ziyech, Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic have all been touted as potential makeweights in recent weeks.

It remains to be seen if the Blues will act on their reported interest in Sane when January rolls around, with Tuchel’s side already in a strong position to compete for this season’s Premier League title.

The German boss recently admitted that he was pleased with the strength of his squad after the marquee summer additions of returning forward Romelu Lukaku and Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez.

“I am absolutely happy with our squad and the alternatives we have,” Tuchel told reporters.

“That means we maybe don’t have the biggest squad but that we have a very competitive squad in all positions.
