Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has launched a scathing attack on Premier League chiefs after his side were held to a 1-1 draw with Brighton on Wednesday night. The Blues appeared to be heading for their 13th Premier League win of the campaign before Danny Welbeck headed home an equaliser in stoppage time at the end of the match.

Tuchel had asked for his side’s clash with Wolves to be postponed earlier this month after a COVID-19 outbreak at the club and a series of injuries.

The Premier League refused to cancel the match and Tuchel was forced to select payers who had only just returned from lengthy spells on the sidelines.

Chelsea ultimately ended up drawing 0-0 in the Black Country and after their title hopes were dented further on Wednesday night, Tuchel’s frustrations boiled over.

“We are struggling but we have again two injured players,” Tuchel said after Reece James and Andreas Christensen were forced off against the Seagulls.

“Our players are injured. I told you what would happen weeks ago. Same thoughts – I told you.”

Substitute Welbeck rose to head home Marc Cucurella’s cross as Chelsea slipped up for the fourth time in the league this month.

But Tuchel, who believes his side were denied a penalty, thinks his players did enough to win the game.

“A draw about right – absolutely not,” hissed the German. “We had the better chances and a clear penalty. Very disappointing.

“Sure we are tired – if you had been in bed for 10 days and played Premier League after that you would be tired.”
