Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has sent Premier League title-rivals Liverpool and Manchester City a message after leading his side to victory against Southampton on Saturday afternoon. The Blues battled a 3-1 victory over the Saints after two late goals at Stamford Bridge.

“Today we are top of the table but tomorrow Man City play Liverpool,” Tuchel said after the match

“They play against each other and they can of course pass us. We don’t get carried away by the fixtures or the table right now but it was a good response and was important after two defeats.

“We always try to bounce back and the reaction, the way we played, was an entertaining match of football and we deserved to win.

“A late winner always feels good and it’s good for the atmosphere and the belief so we’re happy.”

Chelsea went ahead after nine minutes after Trevoh Chalobah swooped at the back post to head home after Ruben Loftus-Cheek had flicked on Ben Chilwell’s corner.

It was one-way traffic in the first half and the Blues had the ball in the back of the net on two more occasions, only for Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner to see their efforts ruled out.

And the hosts were punished after the interval as James Ward-Prowse equalised from the penalty spot after former Chelsea player Tino Livramento had been felled by Chilwell.

But Chelsea were handed a boost after Ward-Prowse was given his marching orders following a bad challenge on Jorginho.

And the Blues secured the victory as Werner and Chilwell both found the back of the net in the final six minutes.
