Arsenal have been linked with a move for PSG defender Thilo Kehrer this summer and can refer to comments made by Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel to establish an idea of the player’s quality. The Gunners will look to rebuild this summer on the back of a disappointing eighth-placed Premier League finish, with defence an area of priority to address for manager Mikel Arteta.

David Luiz has left the club, William Saliba has joined Marseille on loan and Hector Bellerin is expected to move to Inter Milan in the coming weeks, prompting a need for reinforcements.

Benfica defender Nuno Tavares recently became Arteta’s first summer signing, though further arrivals are likely to occur.

One player who could be on his way to the Emirates is PSG central defender Kehrer, who Arsenal have already reportedly enquired about.

The 24-year-old joined the Ligue 1 side in 2018, but is facing an uncertain future due to competition for places in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad, according to Foot Mercato.

Sergio Ramos recently arrived from Real Madrid and is certain to be a regular starter within the side.

Kehrer has two years remaining on his current deal at PSG but could be attracted by the possibility of playing regular first-team football with the Gunners.

Former PSG boss Tuchel was a big fan of the German during his reign as manager and heaped praise on his versatility nature.

“Thilo is a very committed player, very professional,” said Tuchel in August 2018.

“I like his personality; he already has a certain maturity as he’s captain of Germany’s Under-21 side.

“He’s quick, able to play in any of the four positions at the back, is two-footed, and can even play as a defensive midfielder. He’s the sort of player any coach would like to have.”

Kehrer progressed through Schalke’s academy system as a youngster, before being promoted to the first-team in 2016.

During his final season with the German side, he helped the club secure second place in the Bundesliga as well as Champions League football.

He has claimed nine trophies since moving to PSG three years ago, including two Ligue 1 titles.

Kehrer may struggle to feature regularly for the French side following the arrival of Ramos, who is expected to partner long-serving defender Marquinhos at the back.

The Spanish centre-back announced his surprise departure from Real Madrid last month and agreed a two-year deal with Pochettino’s side despite interest from a number of other clubs.
