Charlie Nicholas rinsed after Mbappe to Liverpool transfer admission gaffe

Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas has been rinsed by fans on social media after mispronouncing Kylian Mbappe ’s name.

Ahead of Liverpool ’s clash with Bournemouth this afternoon the pundits on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday were discussing the type of players the Reds can attract.

Nicholas said: “All of a sudden you’ve got people wanting to join Liverpool, Mbaaby, talking about really big names, superstar footballers all interested in going to Anfield.”

Unsurprisingly, Nicholas’ hilarious attempt at saying Mbappe was quick to be picked up by fans on social media.

“Honestly, can’t tell you how excited I am about the prospect of Liverpool signing Mbaaby,” said one fan.

“Is that the Aldi version of Mbappe,” asked another.

A third said: “Charlie Nicholas “Mbabbe” hahahaha.”

“So long as we don’t drop the ‘Mbaaby’ today against Bournemouth, I’ll be happy…” said one supporter.

“Maybe its a new player we havent heard of,” added a fifth.

Mbappe has seen himself linked with Europe’s top clubs having fired PSG to Ligue 1 glory and France to a World Cup in recent years.

The 21-year-old would not come cheap should he opt for a fresh challenge in the summer with Real Madrid long-term admirers of his talent.

Speaking last month, former Arsenal striker Ian Wright urged the Frenchman to consider Anfield as his next move though.

“You look at Mbappe looking across the way. You can probably see him coming across here,” the former Arsenal man told BBC Radio 5 Live on Monday night.

“I’d probably want to go to Liverpool[ahead of City] right now. Any player in the world with Liverpool, especially this season…

“This has taken like four years where [Klopp] is now so you have to say that Liverpool are at the start of it now.

“So if you’re a world class player you probably want to get there now because it seems to me, like we saw with Pep where he’s had two years of unbelievable football, but I feel that Liverpool are really getting ready to build something special.

“If I’m Mbappe, I probably am looking at Liverpool. Where else do you want to go, if you’re Mbappe now?

“I know people say well Barcelona… I think you deal with [who he replaces in the Liverpool team] once he comes across. Liverpool fans are not going to turn their back on Mbappe are they? He’s the next big thing.

“Liverpool fans I don’t think are going to turn their back on him. It’s almost like the Real Madrid Galacticos squad when they were building.

“You think ‘Oh my gosh where’s he going to go?’ – they got them and they just got them in there. Mbappe fits anywhere man.”
