The Champions League draw will be redone on Monday afternoon following an extraordinary UEFA double blunder in the initial draw.

Manchester United were initially wrongly drawn against Villarreal for the last-16 tie despite the fact the two sides had been in the same group.

The mistake was seemingly corrected with the Red Devils drawn to play Paris Saint-Germain, before it became clear that another error had been made.

United had mistakenly been omitted from the draw against Atletico Madrid as the ball was not put in the correct bowl, meaning Atletico's clash with Bayern Munich will no longer take place.

Reports claim Liverpool had been left in the pot as one of the five possible teams for Atletico to face rather than Man United.

Whilst certainly a messy state of affairs, Atletico's odds of drawing Bayern did not increase nor decrease as a result of the blunder.

Yet the official UEFA Champions League Twitter page wrote: "Following a technical problem with the software of an external service provider that instructs the officials as to which teams are eligible to play each other, a material error occurred in the draw for the UEFA Champions League round of 16.

"As a result of this, the draw has been declared void and will be entirely redone at 15:00 CET (2pm)."

News of the draw being void will come as a huge blow to certain clubs, who may deem their original fixtures to be more favourable.

That includes reigning champions Chelsea and 2019 winners Liverpool.

Chelsea were set to face French side Lille, who are one of the weaker sides left in the competition despite winning Ligue 1 last season.

Meanwhile, Liverpool had drawn RB Salzburg in a fixture where Jurgen Klopp's side would have expected a comprehensive victory.
