The Chase’s Jenny Ryan has hit back at a Celtic fan on Twitter after being grilled over a question on Rangers ’ ‘triple-relegation’ in 2012.

Monday night’s episode of the hit ITV quiz show caused controversy amongst Scottish football supporters when host Bradley Walsh asked players: “Which Scottish football team were triple-relegated in 2012?”

Contestant Ben was quickest off the mark with the answer “Rangers”, which Walsh deemed correct.

However, that quickly sparked uproar amongst fans of bitter rivals Celtic, who insist Gers are a new club following their financial problems eight years ago.

One member of the Hoops faithful even quizzed Ryan about the topic on Twitter after the quiz expert responded to an accusation that she doesn’t smile on screen.

The fan then replied: “One favour, though. Tell your researches that Rangers were not ‘triple-relegated’ in 2012.

“The SFA articles of association state that club/company are the same. The co. Went bust, and a new club formed.”

She responded: “They’re not my researchers.”

And when the user replied with: “Ok.. THE researchers,” a disgruntled Ryan blasted: “I don’t get to tell the researchers anything, they don’t work for me.

“But I *do* know that all questions on the Chase are fully sourced and then verified, to ensure the accuracy of the material.”

Ryan appears to have since deleted the posts in question.

Rangers were sent into administration in February 2012 before being liquidated, meaning they were forced to rebuild from the bottom of Scottish football as a Newco.

They eventually worked their way back up to the Scottish Premiership, nevertheless, and now ply their trade in the Europa League.

Gers are also competing with Celtic for the Premiership title, having finished second to their arch-nemesis in the 2019/20 campaign.

Steven Gerrard’s side find themselves one point clear at the top of the table this term, although the Hoops can leapfrog them by winning their game-in-hand.
