Liverpool legend John Barnes has claimed his former club do not need to make any more signings this summer.

Defender Ibrahima Konate has already been signed from RB Leipzig for £36m, while Liverpool have been linked with several midfielders as potential replacements for Georginio Wijnaldum.

However, Barnes believes that Liverpool "don’t need to make signings or to promote from within", unless they are hit by another injury crisis.

Speaking to BonusCodeBets, Barnes said: "Liverpool being cash strapped because of Covid-19 may not be an issue this summer.

"If they don’t lose any players through injury or transfers, they don’t need to sign anyone.

"They brought in Diogo Jota and Thiago last season and signed Ibrahima Konate. Plus, Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are coming back.

"Liverpool know their best players, so they don’t need to make signings or to promote from within, unless they get into an injury situation like last season.

“There will be the odd occasion when players like Harry Wilson and Harvey Elliott need to come into the side, as Nat Phillips and Neco Williams did this season.

"If they are playing for three months that's probably not what you want, but two or three games is manageable."

Meanwhile, Liverpool's assistant manager Peter Krawietz believes that Konate has the ability to become one of the best defender's in the world.

Speaking to Liverpool's official website, Krawietz said: "In him we see the absolute potential to develop into a world-class centre-half. That’s what we want.

"He is a young player still, but also experienced. He played a few years in the German Bundesliga and for several of the French national teams.

"His qualities are pretty obvious. He is a smart centre-half in terms of defending and of course he has the physical body to be a proper centre-half.

"In England we all know what the things are they need to bring to the team: they need to be tall, they need to be quick, they need to be strong in the air and of course it’s important always for us as well that they fit in our tactical profile. In him, we see all of these qualities."
