Bruno Fernandes could only manage minutes from the bench after being dropped from Portugal's starting side for their final Euro 2020 clash with France in Budapest.
Portugal went into the fixture needing a result to move onto the knockout round – after they were swept aside by Germany last time out.
And in their biggest clash in the tournament so far – Manchester United's superstar – Bruno Fernandes was dropped from the side after getting the nod in the previous two fixtures.
According to reports, Fernandes was seen as 'off the pace', and he looked 'unfit', which led to his omission from the side.
Jose Mourinho has been highly critical of Fernandes performances in the tournament so far: "Portugal at its highest level can beat anyone."
"But we need to play with 11 players, in these two matches, Bruno Fernandes was on the pitch but not playing," the Roma boss told talkSPORT earlier this week.
Fernandes was a key part of Manchester United's run to the Europa League final, and he netted 28 goals – and grabbed 17 assists – across all competitions.
However, his long run in the side may have caught up with him during the Euros.
