Barcelona to revisit retro Messi look for new home kit – with pink third strip

Barcelona have released images of their home and third kits for next season as they take inspiration from their 2011 Champions League winning campaign.

The Catalans have stuck to their tradition maroon and blue colour scheme but included a yellow trim.

The last time Lionel Messi and co wore similar colours was a decade ago when they claimed their fourth European crown at Wembley.

Not since that year under Pep Guardiola have the Catalans hit such heights but the club have ambitions to do so again.

Barcelona also donned similar colours during their hugely successful 1920s period when they won five La Liga titles.

The Spanish giants will also wear their first ever pink strip courtesy of next season's third strip.

It will include a teal and black trim which will also be reflected on the club's badge as they retain Nike as kit manufacturers and Rakuten as they sponsor.

The American sports brand are looking to theme third kits according to formerly Air-Max styles and next term's Barcelona kit will derive from the Nike Air Max 98 Tidal Wave.

Barcelona could still wear the kit as champions of Spain but they hopes of a third successive title took a hit at the weekend when they lost to Real Madrid.

Their defeat in El Clasico means they are two points ahead of their rivals and also have a Champions League last 16 game with Napoli to prepare for.

Quique Setien is now the man at the helm after he replaced Ernesto Valverde midseason but his tenure has not got off to the best possible start.

There are already rumours of discontent amid claims the Spaniard is not strong enough to manage a club like Barcelona.
