Barcelona star Gerard Pique has been accused of breaking coronavirus rules on a flight by Spanish media following his side’s 1-0 win over Dynamo Kiev on Tuesday night. The Spain international appeared not to be covering his face on a trip to Madrid, which took place following their victory in Ukraine. And this supposedly forced airplane staff to intervene.

Barcelona beat Dynamo Kiev 1-0 on Tuesday night to keep their hopes of reaching the Champions League knockout stages alive. Pique did not travel due to injury.

Ansu Fati was the hero for the Catalan giants, scoring the only goal of the game in the 70th minute of the contest.

However, after the game, OKDiario have claimed that Pique broke coronavirus rules with regards to his mask-wearing – or lack of – on a personal fight to Madrid on what was apparently a busy plane.

The former Manchester United star is, in footage, snapped with his mask hanging off his face – rather than covering it.

The publication then states that this is forbidden, with passengers only able to remove their face covering to eat or drink.

Pique, in the footage, appears to be doing neither – instead scrolling through his phone and making a call.

Fortunately, however, the 34-year-old then complied when airplane staff told him to cover his face correctly.

Pique wasn’t involved in the win for Barcelona on Tuesday, missing the match due to injury.

Sergi Barjuan oversaw the victory in Ukraine, having been appointed on an interim basis following the sacking of Ronald Koeman.

And, speaking after the game, he opened up on the victory – while also paying tribute to Sergio Aguero, who will miss the next three months due to a heart condition.

“In the pre-match talk, I told them this was a very important match for the club,” he said.

“Today it was very important to win.

“Seeing the players you could tell that there was tension before the game and now I see relieve in their faces.

“This gives confidence for the next match. This can be an important turning point. This frees you, gives you confidence.

“This victory is dedicated to Kun. We are with him.”

And he added: “I’m living this as if it were my team. If I showed doubts, the players would not believe in me.

“The only way for us all to move forward is to show my serenity, convince them and move on.

“I love this club and I love what I do. We’ll see where I am tomorrow but I don’t want the players to see doubts in me.”

Meanwhile, Barcelona are expected to name Xavi as their new manager in the coming hours.

And the Al-Sadd boss has pleaded for his current employers to let him return to the Nou Camp.

“I’ve been talking to Barca for days, it’s done,” he said.

“I’m really looking forward to going home, I hope it happens. It would be spectacular and exciting.

“But now it depends on the conversations between clubs, they need to reach an agreement.

“Barca is coming to talk, we are all eager and excited. We’ll see if it ends up being done.

“It is a matter of common sense. It has to happen [Al Sadd letting him go]. I feel very emotional about it.”
