Arsenal expect Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to enter the final year of his contract at the club as the star continues to stall over a new deal.
Aubameyang is out of contract at the end of next season, and will be able to leave on a free transfer.
The Gunners were hopeful of tying down their captain to fresh terms and secure his future at the club.
But Aubameyang now looks increasingly likely to bide his time at the Emirates as he waits to see whether Arsenal qualify for the Champions League.
The Sun report that Arsenal have already accepted Aubameyang will not pen a new deal before this summer.
That would leave them in a precarious position knowing they could lose their star striker for free 12 months later.
Aubameyang's situation would also put a number of clubs on alert, with Man Utd, Barcelona and PSG all interested in signing the Gabonese international, and believe they could land him for around £35million.
Arsenal chiefs vowed not to put themselves in a similar scenario again to when Aaron Ramsey left the club to join Juventus on a free transfer.
But if the club does not achieve Champions League football next season negotiations with Aubameyang could drag on until he is assured Arsenal are heading in the right direction.
By that time the striker could have just a few months remaining on his deal at the Emirates.
