Atletico may be sitting atop of the LaLiga standings but the champions-elect are already planning for next season.

According to El Larguero, the Spanish giants are looking to let-go of at least six members of their first-team squad this summer.

Of that sextuplet, Saul Niguez and Jose Maria Gimenez are the highest-profile names that are reportedly on the transfer list.

Saul has been a virtual ever-present this campaign – featuring 33 times in all competitions for Diego Simeone’s side.

Gimenez has been blighted by muscle injuries this term, as well as contracting coronavirus at the start of the season, but has played 22 times for the club despite that – including Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Real Betis in LaLiga.

News about Saul’s status especially could attract Premier League interest with the midfielder a supposed Manchester United target last summer.

Gimenez was a target of Manchester City and Chelsea last summer and publicly spoke of his admiration for the latter – a feeling that had been with him since his childhood.

Completing the six are the quartet of Lucas Torreira, Sime Vrsaljko, Vitolo and Moussa Dembele.

Lucas Torreira recently announced that he wants to return to South America this summer

Torreira is currently on loan from Arsenal but has spoken of his public wish to return to South America following the death of his mother in March due to Covid-19.

Defender Vrsaljko has only played 10 times for Atletico this season, while Vitolo has only featured in 13 matches.

Dembele only joined Atletico on loan from Lyon in January but the Spanish club are yet to be convinced and favouring not to take up the option to make that deal a permanent one this summer at present.
