Aston Villa still after Ward-Prowse, Hughes deal back on, Traore to Italy

Aston Villa will be looking to bounce back from their opening day defeat against Watford when they face Newcastle on Saturday.

Dean Smith’s side are still adjusting to life without star Jack Grealish, who joined Manchester City for a Premier League record £100million in early August.

Villa will be boosted by the arrival of Northampton Town midfielder Caleb Chukwuemeka, who joined the club on Monday in a move worth £30million.

Dean Smith will be hoping to bring in further additions before the transfer window door slams shut in less than two week’s time.

And there’s plenty more transfer gossip coming out of Aston Villa with Daily Star Sport here to round-up the best bits…

Saints set asking price

Villa will reportedly have to smash their transfer record for the second time this summer if they are to land Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse.

According to The Athletic, the Saints are demanding £50million for their star midfielder who signed a new five-year deal last August.

Smith's side have been linked with the 26-year-old all summer and have already seen a £ 25million offer rejected last month.

Villa already broke their transfer record for a third successive summer earlier in the window when they signed Emiliano Buendia from Norwich for £35million.

Traore attracting interest from Italy

Who will Aston Villa sign before the end of the transfer window? Let us know in the comments section.

Aston Villa winger Bertrand Traore is reportedly attracting interest from numerous clubs in Europe.

Foot Mercato have said Serie A duo Roma and Atalanta are keen on the 25-year-old, who only joined the club last summer from French outfit Lyon.

The Burkina Faso international made 36 Premier League appearances for Villa in the previous campaign, scoring seven goals.

Traore was named in the matchday squad for the trip to Watford and was given 20 minutes from the bench in the 3-2 defeat.

Palace rejected bid opens door for Villa

Crystal Palace have reportedly had a £5million bid rejected for Watford midfielder and Aston Villa target Will Hughes.

According to Express Sport, Dean Smith is a long term admirer of Hughes and Palace’s refusal to bid any higher could open the door for a move to Villa Park.

Hughes is currently being made to train with the club’s under-23s after refusing to sign a new contract at Vicarage Road.

The 26-year-old has been at Watford since joining from Derby in 2017, but the central midfielder could be on his way through the exit door before the end of the window.
