Arsenal won’t sign Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona this summer, because the move would make no sense for Mikel Arteta’s new-look side. That’s the opinion of Liverpool icon Steve Nicol, who believes it would be too difficult to fit the Brazilian into the Arsenal team.
Arsenal are reportedly still interested in signing Coutinho before the transfer window closes.
The Brazilian was made available by Barcelona earlier in the summer after he returned from his loan at Bayern Munich.
A return to the Premier League seemed likely due to the playmaker’s desire to come back to England, with reports claiming he had asked his agent to explore a move to Liverpool.
But the Reds decided against signing him, and other sides were put off due to Barca’s asking price.

However, new boss Ronald Koeman decided to take another look at the Brazilian and give him a chance in the first-team.
Arsenal are still believed to be interested in signing Coutinho, and have been tipped to make a loan bid before the window closes.
The Gunners have made an impressive start to the season with two wins from their first two games.
Arteta seems to have found his ideal starting line-up, with new signing Willian playing on the right wing and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on the left.

If Arsenal are able to sign Houssem Aouar, he will slot into the middle of midfield alongside Dani Ceballos, leaving little space for Coutinho.
And Nicol explained to ESPN FC that it would be too difficult for Arsenal to fit the Brazilian into Arteta’s side, and for that reason the transfer is unlikely to happen.
He said: “I’d love to know where this came from. So they’re going to move Aubameyang from the left hand side to put Coutinho there? I don’t think so.
“They’re not going to go and spend the amount of money they’d have to spend on him – and not play him.

“They’ve just signed WIllian on the other side, so this really doesn’t make any sense to me whatsoever.”
Arsenal’s bid to sign Aouar this summer hit a snag on Thursday, as Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has warned that the Gunners don’t have the finances to buy the midfielder.
“Financially, Arsenal are like everyone else (in a tricky spot),” he said.
“And Houssem could say to himself that the best thing would be to stay with us.”
