Arsenal transfer round-up: Unai Nunez, Thomas Partey and Lacazette latest

Arsenal have given themselves an outside chance of European qualification after a good unbeaten run in all competitions.

Wins against Southampton, Norwich City and a draw against Leicester City gives them seven points from the last nine available which shows signs of positivity under Mikel Arteta.

While the Spanish head coach has done much to change the complexion of the team, there will most likely need to be activity in the transfer market to continue that development.

A number of targets have been linked with moves to the Emirates Stadium and some of those names could add much needed quality and depth to Arteta’s squad.

Here are the latest Arsenal transfer rumours for Wednesday July 8.

Arsenal a logical choice for Unai Nunez

Arsenal’s search for defensive reinforcements could be solved by the signing of Athletic Bilbao’s Unai Nunez.

The 23-year-old has received interest from a number of Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, according to AS via Sport Witness.

Nunez has been short of game time at centre back for the La Liga side this season and has reportedly refused to sign a new contract with a desire of playing more minutes elsewhere.

The Emirates Stadium could be a logical destination for the centre back given Arteta’s use of a back three in recent weeks and willingness to give game time to younger players looking to prove themselves in the Premier League.

Lacazette eyed as part of Partey swap deal

Alexandre Lacazette could be part of a swap deal that brings Thomas Partey to North London from Atletico Madrid.

That is according to L’Equipe, via talkSPORT, who report that the La Liga side are interested in signing the French striker and see him as a key part of brokering a deal for Partey moving the other way.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Partey on several occasions in recent months and the prospect of Lacazette moving the other way will require some thought from the club’s hierarchy.

While Partey is said to be a number one target, losing one of their top strikers could depend on how much faith is shown in Eddie Nketiah.

Interest cooled in Newcastle star

Arsenal have cooled their interest in the race to sign Newcastle United star player Allan Saint-Maximin this summer.

According to The Athletic, the Gunners have no interest in signing the winger despite previous links with a summer move for him.

Arteta’s current wide options include club-record signing Nicolas Pepe, Reiss Nelson, Bukayo Saka and others, meaning that the club will most likely look to strengthen elsewhere when the transfer window opens.

For Newcastle, Arsenal’s lack of interest will come as a major boost in their hopes of keeping the winger but there will most likely be interest from elsewhere in the coming months.
