Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has done his best impression of Peter Odemwingie on transfer deadline day. Barcelona are keen on signing Aubameyang before tonight’s deadline. The player arrived in Barcelona on Monday but all may not be as it seems.

Aubameyang has not played for Arsenal since he was stripped of the club captaincy in December.

The Gabon international was punished by Mikel Arteta after another disciplinary breach.

He returned home late from a trip to France and has not featured in a Gunners match-day squad since.

Arsenal are keen to offload the forward in this window and Barca are leading the way for his signature.

However, a deal may not be as a far along as thought after seeing the forward land in Barcelona.

That is because, according to CBS Sports, both Arsenal and Barca have been left surprised by the 32-year-old’s presence in Catalonia.

Neither side expected Aubameyang to fly to the city when he did.

And it echoes a move Odemwingie pulled off when he tried to secure a transfer.

Odemwingie arrived at the QPR training ground on January 31 2013 in the hope of completing a move to the London side.

He travelled down from West Bromwich having expected a deal to go through.

Odemwingie was famously interviewed on Sky Sports News, almost speaking as a QPR player.

But the transfer fell through as West Brom were unable to sign Junior Hoilett from Rangers as part of the deal.
