Arsenal might have just mistakenly confirmed the arrival of Matt Turner ahead of the summer transfer window – after sending him a bouquet of flowers.
Reports broke in January that the Gunners have clinched a deal for the New England Revolution goalkeeper ahead of the end of the season. However, both himself and the MLS club have already stated that he in London-bound.
Despite both club and player revealing all, Arsenal have yet to officially unveil Turner and it has been planned that the announcement will be forthcoming in June when the transfer window opens. But they might just have given themselves up already with their latest action.
Turner is celebrating his wedding day and took to Instagram to show all the presents that he has received. That has included a bouquet of flowers, red and white, with a card that read: "Congratulations on your wedding day! Best wishes, From everyone at Arsenal FC."
That is quite the bizarre gift from a totally random club… unless he was already your player. It has ultimately seen Arsenal inadvertently confirm the arrival of the 27-year-old before the season has finished.
After already signing Aaron Ramsdale last summer, Mikel Arteta has made it his mission to completely revamp the squad and that could mean the end of Bernd Leno at the Emirates. The German is already playing second fiddle but the impending arrival of Turner will see his relegated further down the pecking order.
Where the former Bayer Leverkusen star will go this summer remains to be seen though a return to the Bundesliga is on the cards while Newcastle have also been linked. And the goalkeeper has admitted that this season has been tough under Arteta.
"It was a setback and a bitter moment," he told Spox, via Goal. "But that's sport, you have to accept that. It wasn't easy, but I couldn't feel sorry for myself. It was clearly communicated to me that it had nothing to do with my performance and was therefore difficult to accept at first.
"I had always played well in the years before and was hardly ever injured. That hits you hard. But as I said, there's no reason to feel sorry for yourself. You have to look ahead and keep working on yourself. That's what I did."
