Arsenal have reportedly identified Manchester United target Andre Silva as a replacement for Alexandre Lacazette ahead of the summer transfer window. The Eintracht Frankfurt striker has fired 19 goals in 21 Bundesliga matches this season – placing him just above Erling Haaland in the scoring charts.

Silva is on United’s radar as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer targets a centre-forward this summer, according to reports earlier this week.

While Edinson Cavani is expected to sign an extension to his one-year deal at Old Trafford, Solskjaer needs another option capable of leading the line for the longer term.

The fact that United’s talisman Bruno Fernandes regularly links up with Silva with Portugal’s national squad will stand the Red Devils in good stead in the chase for Silva.

But now Arsenal have also joined the race to land the 25-year-old, according to reports from the continent.

Mikel Arteta’s side have identified Silva as a candidate to replace Lacazette, according to Calciomercato.

Lacazette is out of contract at the Emirates in the summer of 2022, and the Gunners are reportedly open to selling him at the end of this season.

So it seems a bidding war could be about to break out, with Silva valued at around £26million.

The striker this week spoke out about the speculation surrounding his future, saying he was flattered by the interest from Premier League sides.

“I’ve heard rumours, but that is it,” he told Goal.

“At the end of this season, it’s something that gives me more motivation to work, it’s a sign that what I have accomplished has borne fruit and the path has been good.”

Silva was also asked what he feels he would be worth, to which he jokingly replied: “Around €105million [£91m]?”

He then continued: “I’m kidding.

“I think I heard €30m [£26m] and something somewhere.

“When we sell our merchandise, we always increase the value a little bit.

“Things are as they are and, whatever happens around us, the most important thing is to look at me and what I can do.”

Silva’s goals so far this season place him only behind Robert Lewandowski in the Bundeliga scoring charts.

The Bayern Munich star has 28, while Silva’s tally of 19 puts him two ahead of £100million-rated Haaland.

Another target for Arsenal is Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard, who like Lacazette is out of contract in 2022.
