Arsenal have been given the perfect chance to scout Sevilla forward Youssef En-Nesyri this summer as they are set to go head-to-head with his employers in a pre-season friendly. The Gunners are on the lookout for a new striker to replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who left the Emirates Stadium to join Barcelona in January.

Arsenal appeared to be heading towards a top four Premier League finish at the start of last weekend as they were one point ahead of Tottenham in the table with two matches remaining. But Spurs moved above Mikel Arteta’s side on Sunday as they defeated Burnley. And the Gunners then suffered a shock loss to Newcastle on Monday night.

If Antonio Conte’s men beat Norwich in their final game of the season on Sunday, Arsenal will finish fifth and miss out on a return to the Champions League. And that could make their search for a striker even harder.

Arteta looks likely to lose Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah this summer when their contracts expire. And the north Londoners have been tipped to make a move for En-Nesyri. The 24-year-old was on target for Sevilla at the weekend as his side drew 1-1 with Atletico Madrid to book their place in next season’s Champions League. But the Arsenal boss will be hoping he can still entice the ace away from Spain.

En-Nesyri has endured an injury-hit season at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium and has only found the back of the net five times in all competitions. But the Morocco international has displayed his prodigious talents in years gone by and struck 18 times in La Liga and six times in the Champions League last season.

The striker was a key part of the Sevilla team that lifted the Europa League trophy in 2020 and has already won 45 caps for his country. And he could touch down at the Emirates at the end of July when Arsenal host the Spanish giants in a friendly before the 2022/23 Premier League season gets underway a week later.

Arsenal have been linked with a whole host of frontmen as they search for someone to lead the line next season. Real Sociedad ace Alexander Isak, Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Manchester City genius Gabriel Jesus are all said to be players Arteta is keen on. But the Spaniard could struggle to get his hands on any of the players if they miss out on Champions League football.

And if the manager goes after En-Nesyri he will face a transfer battle with Newcastle. The Magpies were taken over by a mega-rich Saudi-led consortium last autumn. And the north east giants are looking to build a side that can compete with the best teams in England.
