Arsenal suffered a disappointing defeat at the hands of Burnley on Sunday night, with a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s own goal sealing the club’s seventh loss of the season.
Mikel Arteta’s side struggled to create chances, with fans tearing into the boss for his selection of Alexandre Lacazette as a false nine.
Arsenal were poor throughout the game on Sunday night, and were once again starved of any creativity.
Arteta played a 4-2-3-1 formation, with Alexandre Lacazette playing in a false nine position behind Aubameyang.
The Frenchman put in a poor showing, however, and was unable to get himself into the game properly.
He seemed to be struggling with the new position, and was hauled off for Dani Ceballos after an hour.
The defeat leaves Arsenal in 15th place in the Premier League table with a mountain to climb if they want to get into the top-half of the table any time soon.
Arsenal fans are getting increasingly despondent with the team’s results, with some turning on Arteta after just a year at the club.
And after Sunday night’s defeat, supporters took to social media to complain about his decision to select Lacazette as a false nine, claiming he needs to tell his forwards to be more confident in front of goal.
One wrote: "Lacazette was a failed experiment as a false 9, there is no logic in playing him behind the striker like this."
Another posted: “This team is obsessed with playing the ball to the wing. Even if they're in the best position to score they pass it out to the wing.”
“That may be an indication of the total absence of confidence among the forwards, rather than a particular playing style,” another claimed.
One said: “Our striker is at the top of the box with a clear shot and space and he is conditioned to pass it off to the wing because he is a "10". This is such a crazy thing, just like putting LT as a 10 when Emery did it.”
Another fumed: “Just f*****g shoot son. What are you doing?!!!! This is just upsetting to watch. Just blast it into the goal f***s sake mate…”
One declared: “I want to see him and a few others exit the club before I'll hear any suggestion of Arteta leaving.”
