Arsenal fans have been left fuming at reports Tottenham may swoop for top target Gabriel Jesus after the Gunners were pipped to the Champions League post by their bitter North London rivals.

Despite demolishing Everton 5-1 on the last day of the Premier League season, Mikel Arteta's men were left to settled for a fifth-placed finish as Spurs sealed fourth spot in style with a stunning 5-0 win over already-relegated Norwich. Heading into the final day, Arsenal knew it would take a miraculous turn of events to secure a return to the Champions League next season having thrown away their advantage last week.

After a calamitous 3-0 defeat to Tottenham in the North London derby, Arteta's side then succumbed 2-0 to Newcastle to all but end their European dream. As if beating their rivals to the Champions League wasn't enough, it now appears Spurs are keen to rub salt into their old foes' wounds following reports Antonio Conte's team are set to target Manchester City's Jesus – a player Arsenal have their eyes on.

According to The Telegraph, Tottenham are poised to go toe-to-toe with the Gunners over the Brazilian this summer and hold the key advantage of being able to offer the 25-year-old Champions League football next term. Jesus, who admitted his future remains "uncertain" following City's latest title success, has recently been tipped to join Arteta's ranks, but it remains to be seen if the club's European failure will impact a potential deal.

The striker's agent has held talks with Arsenal over recent months and the player is understood to be interested in joining Arteta's project in North London. It is understood Jesus will turn down a new deal at City as he seeks further first-team opportunities elsewhere, ahead of the Etihad arrival of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.

With the club's top target now reportedly under consideration from their arch rivals Spurs, it's fair to say Gunners supporters aren't best pleased. Responding to the report that Tottenham may hijack Arsenal's move Jesus, one fuming fan wrote: "Complete lies," followed by a laughing face emoji.

"Where would he play for Spurs? Not gonna leave city to be a bench player behind Kane/Son/Kulu. The whole reason he’s leaving city is for first team football and to be the main man."

Another enraged Gooners wrote: "There's no way Spurs will beat Arsenal to players if Arsenal actually wanted them and wasn't merely 'interested' in them. This is a non-story."

A third added: "He would want a team that can win trophies regardless of which European competition they are in and Spurs don't do such things."
