Arsenal have entered the running for £6million January bargain Denis Zakaria, according to reports in Germany. The box-to-box, dynamic midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season with Borussia Monchengladbach now pushing for a winter sale to avoid losing their player on a free transfer.
The established Swiss international, who has represented his country at the 2018 World Cup, the Nations League in 2019 and Euro 2020, has already won 38 caps for his country at the age of 25.
Predominantly a No 8, Zakaria is known for his energy and ball retention ability in the middle of the park.
A number of Premier League clubs have continued to monitor the development of the former Young Boys man in the past two seasons, including the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.
However, following a slight dip in form, it appears neither club are prepared to capitalise on a cut-price deal this month.

Yet Fussball Transfers in Germany are now reporting that Arsenal are ready to rival Manchester United for Zakaria’s signature.
The Gunners are looking to add another midfielder to their ranks as soon as possible due to a lack of numbers in the middle of the park.
Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny are currently in Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations while Granit Xhaka has tested positive for COVID-19.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles was also able to persuade the club to let him join Roma on loan.

Zakaria aligns with Arsenal’s recently implemented transfer policy that has seen Mikel Arteta and Edu target young players yet to fully maximise their potential.
Ralf Rangnick is hoping United can pull off a January deal for Zakaria to provide him with another option in midfield before he moves upstairs at the end of the season.
Talks have already been held with the player’s agent but so far, a deal has yet to have been agreed.
The Gunners have a whole host of other names on their midfield shortlist, including Juventus’ Arthur Melo.

Arthur has struggled with both Barcelona and the Bianconeri since arriving in Europe from Gremio in 2018.
The Brazilian has failed to elevate his game to the next level despite showing glimpses of huge promise.
There’s hope Arsenal can buck the trend if they are able to pull off a loan deal.
Juventus are willing to do business but want to sign a replacement first.
Lyon’s Bruno Guimaraes remains a long-term target and a deal could be explored this summer.
