Arsenal have been handed the chance to get another player off their wage bill to help fund a transfer move for Dusan Vlahovic. The Gunners are one of a number of clubs interested in the Fiorentina striker, who is set to cost a small fortune.

La Viola are expected to demand in the region of £70million for the 21-year-old, with the striker set to request astronomical wages.

Vlahovic has starred for Fiorentina over the past two seasons, scoring 21 goals in Serie A last campaign.

He has continued that remarkable goalscoring form this term, registering 18 strikes in just 20 games in all competitions.

That has led to him becoming one of the most in-demand strikers in Europe, with those clubs not expected to be in the running for Erling Haaland turning towards the Serbian instead.

With his contract not expiring until the summer of 2023, Fiorentina are attempting to bring in as high a fee as possible.

The Gunners are facing competition from Tottenham and Newcastle for Vlahovic, with all three prioritising signing a striker in the January window.

While Newcastle can easily afford such a move following their takeover by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, it will be more difficult for Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta went on a spending spree in the summer, paying out more than £150m on six new signings.

As a result, they may have to move on players this winter in order to fund a mega-money deal for Vlahovic.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles is already on his way out of the Emirates Stadium, with the Englishman set to arrive in Italy to complete a loan move to Roma.

And another bit-part player is now drawing interest from a European club, presenting the possibility that a move for Vlahovic could be on.

According to the Daily Mail, Atletico Madrid are ‘interested’ in bringing in Cedric Soares on a loan deal with an option to buy at the end of the season.

Soares has played just four times in the Premier League this season, mainly spending his time warming the bench.

Reigning La Liga champions Atletico are in the market for a new right-back after allowing Kieran Trippier to move to Newcastle.

It appears that Soares is now their top target to replace the departed Trippier, though they do face a major obstacle to such a move.

It is stated that with Maitland-Niles on his way out, the Gunners are ‘likely to be reluctant’ to allow Soares to leave as well due to a lack of cover at right-back.

But the chance to fund a dream move for Vlahovic could be enough to convince Arteta to sanction Soares’ exit to the Spanish capital.
