Arsenal are edging closer to completing a £50million deal for Brighton defender Ben White after holding face-to-face talks with the player's representatives.
Mikel Arteta's side are in the market for a new central defender this summer and quickly turned their attention to the 23-year-old, who featured heavily for Graham Potter's side last campaign.
The Gunners saw an opening £40m bid for White rejected one week ago but are understood to have made progress in their pursuit of the England international and are confident of securing his services.
Negotiations between the two Premier League clubs are now "progressing" and a deal is "not far off", according to a latest report by the Athletic.
The Seagulls are searching for a guaranteed fee of £50million for the Poole-born defender, with Arsenal currently offering £45m plus an extra £5m in add-ons.
White was named Brighton Player of the Season for the 2020/21 campaign, impressing in the 36 Premier League appearances he made for the club.
He first began gaining the attention of clubs after featuring in all 46 league games during Leeds United's promotion-winning season in 2019/20, having been sent out on loan by Brighton.
Marcelo Bielsa's side were keen to keep hold of White but he was instead drafted into Graham Potter's starting-eleven for the Seagulls.
Would Ben White be a good signing for Arsenal? Comment below.
Discussing his next potential move at the end of last term, the promising defender said: "I don't really think too much about the future," he told SussexLive.
"I like to assess what's happening now and take it game by game.
"In the Championship it was an amazing year. Each game was unbelievable. Now in the Premier League with Brighton, it is the same, every game is important for me and obviously the team."
Speaking in the summer, White's agent, Alex Levack, said: "When a football club don't want to sell it's very difficult.
"There was a tinge of disappointment but that passed quickly, Ben's head is fully at Brighton and he wants to get cracking in the Premier League now."
