Arsenal agree deal to sign defender as part of Matteo Guendouzi loan move

Arsenal have agreed a deadline-day deal to sign Hertha Berlin defender Omar Rekik as part of Matteo Guendouzi’s loan move to the German club.

French midfielder Guendouzi has fallen down Mikel Arteta’s pecking order at the Emirates and will spend the rest of the 2020-21 season at Hertha Berlin.

The 21-year-old has not played for the Gunners since June, when he was involved in a fracas with Neal Maupay during a 2-1 defeat to Brighton.

Arsenal signed Guendouzi from Lorient in 2018 and he has made 82 appearances so far for the Gunners.

As part of his loan move to Hertha Berlin, Arsenal have agreed a £900,000 deal for 18-year-old Dutch centre-back Rekik, according to the Daily Mail.

Rekik will undergo his medical shortly and is expected to initially join Steve Bould’s U23 squad before moving to Arteta’s first-team squad.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have wrapped up another deadline-day deal for Nikolaj Moller, while they are hoping to sign Thomas Partey before the 11pm deadline.

Asked to provide a transfer update following Arsenal’s victory over Sheffield United, Arteta said: ‘I am confident we know exactly what we want to do, we are all trying our best to finalise the deals that we want, whether that is sending someone on loan or bringing someone in.

‘We have a complete connection and cohesion between Edu and myself, the board and the ownership, so let’s see what happens in the next 36 hours.’
