Manchester United are reportedly willing to sell Anthony Martial this summer – and the striker has never hidden his admiration for Arsenal. Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival at Old Trafford has pushed Martial further down the pecking order.
The Frenchman is competing for one forward position alongside the likes of Ronaldo, Mason Greenwood and Edinson Cavani.
Martial has only started one Premier League match this season, the disappointing 1-1 away draw at Southampton.
Eurosport claim the 25-year-old will be allowed to leave in January if his £40million valuation is met.
Martial’s camp may well be looking for a new club and the attacker has never hidden his love for Arsenal – who are in dire need of a goalscorer.
“I always followed English football. Manchester United because Patrice Evra was there and he comes from the same town as me,” Martial told United’s official website in 2018.
“I followed Arsenal as Thierry Henry was there, also from Les Ulis,” he told Manchester United’s official website.
“For my French heroes, I had Thierry Henry, of course, and then Zinedine Zidane, Zizou. They were the best. I admired strikers, number 10s.
“Another player who I really liked was Nicolas Anelka. He was a really great player, quick with loads of skill.”
Last year former Arsenal defender Lauren urged his old club to move for Martial.
“If Martial doesn’t renew his contract at Man Utd, Arsenal would be crazy not to try and snap him up,” Lauren told Sportingbet.
“He’s a fantastic player and is starting to show what he can really do when given a good run of games.
“Martial won’t go anywhere without being guaranteed first-team football, which I think he would get at Arsenal.”
Arsenal failed to score any goals in their opening three league matches of the season
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette have failed to hit top form and have only scored one goal between them in five Premier League games.
The Gunners will hope their hitman are back firing again for the north London derby on Sunday (4.30pm).
But if their woes continue then Mikel Arteta may be forced to dip into the transfer market in January – where Martial would be available.
