Manchester United forward Anthony Martial showed off his battle scars after his side’s 2-0 win against Manchester City at Old Trafford.
The Frenchman scored United’s opening goal at the Theatre of Dreams when he volleyed home following a piece of quick-thinking from Bruno Fernandes on a free-kick.
Martial was uncharacteristically aggressive throughout the match and showed the sort of passion and endeavour that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been calling for throughout the season.
That was displayed shortly after half-time when Martial chased down a poor touch from Man City stopper Ederson and nearly forced a second goal before the Brazilian eventually cleared his lines.
Though Ederson cleared, he caught Martial and the Frenchman ended up in the net and in some pain.
It looked as though Martial could be forced off but he battled on before succumbing to substitution 12 minutes from time.
Martial has stepped up in Marcus Rashford’s absence but the forward may now be an injury doubt for Thursday’s Europa League clash against LASK as he revealed his scars in the dressing room after.
United will be looking to extend their unbeaten run in all competitions to 11 in Austria before a tricky trip to Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham next Sunday.
