Alexander-Arnold aims dig at Jose Mourinho after rant following Liverpool defeat

Trent Alexander-Arnold had a simple three-word put-down for Jose Mourinho after the Tottenham manager was left fuming by his side's defeat to Liverpool.

Mourinho fumed at his opposite number Jurgen Klopp on the touchline after Roberto Firmino scored a last-gasp winner at Anfield.

Son Heung-Min had earlier cancelled out Mohamed Salah's opener, but Firmino headed home from a 90th-minute corner to send Liverpool top of the Premier League with a 2-1 victory.

Asked afterwards what he had said to Klopp after the final whistle, Mourinho said: “I told him the best team lost."

The Spurs boss was also upset at Klopp's “animated” behaviour on the touchline, insisting if he had clashed with the officials he would have been sent to the stands.

After the Tottenham manager's comments emerged, Liverpool star Trent-Alexander Arnold took to Twitter to have a dig at Mourinho.

"Best team won," he posted, along with a smiley emoji and a picture of Reds players celebrating Firmino's winner.

Klopp agreed with Alexander-Arnold's verdict on the game, insisting the Reds deserved the victory and praising the way his players overcame "a counter-attacking monster".

“The win was absolutely deserved," Klopp said.

"They are a top side – a counter-attacking monster – so you have to be really focused, and because they don’t want the ball too much you have play around them and keep them busy. We did that really, really well."

Mourinho had earlier revealed that Klopp had disagreed with him over what he felt was "a very unfair result".

The unhappy Spurs boss said: “I told him the best team lost. He disagreed. That's his opinion.

"By the way, if I behaved the way on the touchline like he does, I have no chance to stay there – and I'm out."

Mourinho added: “We missed the chances and had the game under control.

"A draw would be a bad result so you can imagine how we feel with a defeat. Very good performance and some mistake with things to improve. A very unfair result.”
