Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Liverpool have all reportedly accelerated their interest in PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo.

The 22-year-old is currently enjoying a successful breakout campaign, with 16 goals and 14 assists in 36 games across all competitions.

Gakpo was heavily linked with a move away from PSV during the January transfer window but he instead signed a new one year extension until 2026.

According to The Athletic, his new contract does not involve a release clause and there’s an understanding that if PSV receive a suitable offer for Gakpo, they would be open to selling.

The report also claims the likes of Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern Munich have all ‘accelerated’ their interest in the attacker, though negotiations are yet to begin.

Mikel Arteta’s side were strongly linked to the Holland international during the last transfer window following Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang’s expected departure and their need to to strengthen in attack.

An asking pricing has not been set for Gakpo, but it’s thought PSV will demand up to £42million for the player.

Earlier in the season, the club’s technical director, John de Jong, admitted Gakpo will eventually leave them.

He said: ‘Gakpo will of course not stay in Eindhoven forever. He will go to a top club in a top league in the future. Or will that happen next summer? That’s hard to say.’

Gakpo made his Holland debut last summer at Euro 2020. But he will not join up for the friendlies against Denmark and Germany after picking up a knock during his side’s Europa Conference League win over Copenhagen on Thursday.

PSV continued their superb run of form over the weekend as they thrashed Fortuna Sittard 5-0. But they remain two points behind Ajax in the race for the Eredivisie title.
