'A champion above all!' – Ronaldo reveals his pick to win 2021 Ballon d'Or

Brazil legend Ronaldo believes Karim Benzema should win the 2021 Ballon d’Or.

Benzema, along with Real Madrid teammate Luka Modric, made France Football’s 30-player list this week.

The France international endured a trophy-less season last term after a frustrating 2020-21 campaign with Real and Les Blues crashing out of Euro 2020 at the last 16 stage.

But Ronaldo, who like Benzema, wore no9 for Los Blancos, believes the former Lyon star is a worthy recipient of football’s biggest individual accolade.

‘Without a doubt, my candidate for the Ballon d’Or is Benzema,’ Ronaldo said.

‘The best forward in the world, [an] incredibly high level for 10 years and a champion above all. Worthy of the award, don’t you think?’

Lionel Messi, already a six-time winner, is among the favourites to win this year’s award. Despite a disappointing campaign with Barcelona before joining Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, he did lead Argentina to Copa America success, his first major international honour.

Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski is also among the contenders along with Chelsea midfielder Jorginho, who helped the Blues to Champions League success before also being involved in Italy’s Euro 2020 triumph.

His Chelsea teammate N’Golo Kante will also be in the running after his sublime campaign.
