10 Man Utd transfer targets fans should be keeping an eye on at Euro 2020

Manchester United will be watching Euro 2020 closely as several of their transfer targets will be representing their countries.

The tournament is well underway with England securing a first-ever opening game win against Croatia while Italy and Belgium have secured wins.

Several teams can boast talents from the top European leagues including Premier League and La Liga and Bundesliga winners.

United’s pursuit of the title saw them finish second, 12 points behind winners Manchester City, and they will look to build on it with new arrivals this summer.

With several reported targets on display at Euro 2020, Daily Star Sport has rounded up some of the players United fans should be watching in the tournament…

Jadon Sancho – England

The most well-known target for United this season if the Borussia Dortmund forward, who was included in Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad.

And a deal appears to be close, with Sancho ‘agreeing personal terms’ at Old Trafford and a difference of £10m in valuation to be negotiated.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remains confident of getting the deal done, looking to inject a goal-scoring threat into his attacking line.

Fans may not see it too often at Euro 2020, though, as the 21-year-old was left out of the match day squad for the 1-0 win against Croatia.

Kieran Trippier – England

One player who did feature against Croatia, though, was the Atletico Madrid defender.

The Englishman, fresh from winning La Liga with the Spanish giants, has been linked with the Red Devils as competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

And Trippier appears to be keen on a move, having told his England team-mates about it – but an offer is yet to transpire.

He played out of position on the left during the win at Wembley, with the 30-year-old expected to play a prominent role for the Three Lions.

Raphael Varane – France

One of Solskjaer’s biggest problems to solve this summer is a consistent centre-back partner for Harry Maguire.

And Real Madrid’s defender, who is into the last 12 months of his deal in Spain, has emerged as a hot favourite – especially after his price was dropped to £43m.

As one of the World Cup winners in 2018, Varane started the pre-tournament friendlies for France against Wales and Bulgaria, expected to feature in the fierce Group F.

Pau Torres – Spain

Another name linked with United’s central defender search is the 24-year-old – and is one of the players United have already had a good look at.

Torres ran the line during the Europa League final for Villarreal which they won on penalties against the Premier League side.

Despite securing Champions League football next season, the club’s president has suggested he will not stand in the way if a club comes knocking.

He partnered Aymeric Laporte in the 0-0 friendly draw against Portugal, expected to be in Luis Enrique’s strongest XI.

Jules Kounde – France

La Liga is also the league of a fourth defensive transfer target for United, with the Sevilla youngster of interest since the start of the year.

Having enjoyed a second full season with the Champions League side, the three years left on his deal make the 22-year-old the most costly behind Sancho.

But the player has hinted he is keen to leave this summer, suggesting the Red Devils would be willing to pay £68m for him.

Kounde is not expected to feature as regularly in France’s Euro 2020 campaign but will provide them with depth in the deeper stages of the competition they are expected to reach.

Kinglsey Coman – France

While Sancho has dominated United’s transfer chase for forwards, Bayern Munich’s 25-year-old forward has suddenly emerged as a target.

The 25-year-old is contracted with the German side until 2023 – but Solskjaer is willing to meet his £200-a-week wage demands.

It is expected, though, he would only be seen as an alternative to the Dortmund star should talks fail at the last hurdle for the Premier League side.

And the same can be said for his European campaign with France as he has Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann and Karim Benzema ahead of him.

Saul Niguez – Spain

United can boast talents such as Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes in midfield but have struggled for regular options in front of the defence.

It has seen them return for long-term target Niguez, at a time when the Spaniard is looking for an exit.

Despite featuring regularly for Atletico Madrid this season, the La Liga winners would accept a £40m deal for the 26-year-old.

The chances of seeing him at Euro 2020, though, rely on the back line receiving a series of injuries which forces them to call on a man who didn’t make the original squad.

Ben White – England

One of Brighton’s most impressive players in their underwhelming season was the 23-year-old centre-back.

But it is likely to mean his departure from the south coast amid interest from United, Liverpool and Arsenal this summer for a fee of £50m.

No offer has been made but he would be seen as a long-term option to partner Maguire among their considered targets.

White could play some minutes in the tournament having replaced Trent Alexander-Arnold following his injury against Austria.

Sergio Ramos – Spain

If United want experience at the back, though, they are likely to be chasing the Real Madrid hero.

Ramos’ contract at the Bernabeu expires at the end of the month – and United could pounce on the lack of negotiations Florentino Perez is offering the 35-year-old.

But the only place he is likely to be seen during Euro 2020 is in the stands after failing to make Enrique’s squad.

Cristiano Ronaldo – Portugal

A man who needs no introduction to United fans, who is starting to consider his future.

Juventus’ financial struggles following Covid and disastrous season has seen speculation grow the five-time Ballon d’Or winner could leave the club this summer.

And Ronaldo has reportedly even ‘contacted’ Old Trafford about a return, with PSG and a return to Real also in contention.

The 36-year-old, who lifted the Henri Delauney Cup in the 2016 version of the tournament, will have the task of leading Portugal as they look to win again.
