Off-contract NRL star Jamil Hopoate has been fined for failing to wear a face mask while attending a police station in Sydney’s northern beaches.
Hopoate, 26, is on bail after being charged with drug supply relating to an alleged cocaine importation.
The former Brisbane Broncos player was fined $1000 after walking into Dee Why police station on Monday without putting a mask on despite warning signs stating the regulations.
It is understood he was at the police station for his daily bail check-in over the drug supply charge.
“A 26-year-old man has been issued with a penalty infringement notice for not wearing a face mask in the foyer of Dee Why police station earlier this week, Monday July 19, 2021,” NSW Police said.

“Despite numerous signs and warnings regarding the current health requirements for wearing face masks in closed areas, the man continued to enter the station without a mask.”
People anywhere in NSW must wear a face mask when indoors at any non-residential premises under Covid-19 public health orders.
Hopoate was sacked from the Broncos at the end of the 2020 season.
He pleaded guilty in February to multiple assault and driving charges, in a case separate to the drug supply charges, following an incident with his de facto partner Shae Beathe last December.
