What channel is NASCAR on today? TV schedule, start time for Talladega playoff race

For anyone who’s asking “What channel is the NASCAR race on today?” the answer is one viewers will see often in the coming weeks.

The channel for Sunday’s Cup Series playoff race, the YellaWood 500, is NBC. The NBC family of networks is airing all of the remaining Cup Series races in 2021, and NBC is showing Sunday’s race — the second race in the Round of 12 — from Talladega Superspeedway.

NBC and NBCSN will divide the 10 playoff race telecasts evenly through the season-ending Championship 4 race in November, but MSNBC will air just one more race this year, from Kansas Speedway on Oct. 24. NBC will televise the others.

Below is all you need to know about the schedule for Sunday’s race at Talladega, including the TV coverage and start time.

What time does the NASCAR race start today?

The green flag for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series playoff race on Talladega Superspeedway’s 2.66-mile oval is scheduled to drop at 2:03 p.m. ET. The track does not have lights, which makes an early-afternoon start necessary.

Another benefit to an earlier start: the ability to finish the race even if it rains. And rain is in the forecast for Sunday. The National Weather Service is calling for showers and possibly a thunderstorm after the scheduled start time, with a high temperature near 80. The weather service puts the chance of precipitation at 60 percent.
